Meet the Owners/Managers
Welcome!
Hi Everyone! Welcome to PokerForumSite.com, our (and eventually your) little section of the web devoted to Poker and Poker talk. Whether you're a newcomer to the site, or a long term follower of our Poker Forum, you'll have noted that the word "we" is often dropped. But nobody really knows who we are. Perhaps no one cares? ... ah, what the heck, we're so narcissistic as to have considered the notion so here it is. Who we are, and how we got here.
How we met
Mike and I met in the summer of 2000 at a call center he owned. At some point we started hanging out with the same group of individuals and shortly thereafter, started dating. We had each played poker in the past (mostly dealer's choice), and had suggested to some of our friends that we set up a game one night. Everyone showed up that evening with their bags of quarters and we did just that ... proceed in playing all the wackiest versions of poker that we could come up with. Most of the games were invented, and Texas Hold'Em was rarely the game of choice (most of us gravitated toward games like 1 down 2 up, 7 cards down kings and littles wild, or 5 cards up ... you get the idea). One night we were invited to another friend's house for a game of Texas Hold'Em (which we knew little about). That night we played a classic 9person freezeout with 3 places paid, and both Mike and myself ended up placing.
There's nothing better than winning, in Poker, and we had already developed a love of cards (playing other games like Oh Hell, Crib, Hearts ...) so poker just seemed like the next logical step in card playing. Sidenote - I think that's the reason why a lot of pros do well (they know how to play different kinds of card games and in general, just have a greater knowledge of card functions, betting patterns, psychology and tells, etc.)
Anyway we started up a regular poker game every Sunday night. Eventually we graduated to plastic chips, then Mike bought a snazzy 1000 piece set, and eventually everyone and their brother were showing up. At some point we introduced buy ins, and then gradually re-introduced the idea of playing cash games (the money that was being tossed around rapidly climbed as people became more confident with throwing it "all in".)
A few months of playing at these home games and we started seeing poker show up on the sports networks on tv. Of course, during these poker specials there would be advertisements for Party Poker, Poker Stars, Full Tilt, etc. Mike and I decided to look into playing online, you know, just check it out. We signed up to PokerStars and placed in a freeroll which gave us some cash to play real low limit games. It only took a week, but we lost that money and decided to deposit 50 bucks there to test out the water.
As any other bankroll, it's had it's ups and downs ... good runs and bad runs (though I try to convince mike that "runs" are fictitious lol) anyway overall we're in the profit.
The Website Project
Explaining Texas Hold'Em and other forms of Poker to people has always been a passion of ours. Let's spread the word about a great game that brings people together every night, somewhere in the world. But more so, we wanted to share our knowledge and experience with others who were only beginning to hear about this great game. In May of 2006 Mike and I purchased our first group of websites which would be dedicated to the spreading of Poker knowledge. We wanted to link our friends, family members, and passerbys with everything - basic as well as advanced poker discussion, recommended rooms where you can play, recommended books and poker tools to improve your game. In the last 6 months we have hosted a multitude of freerolls as well as given out sponsorships to players who are only just now entering the online Poker scene.
It seems like only yesterday this was a 12 page site, which has skyrocketed to over a hundred different pages and a forum that is now booming with action.
So welcome! We hope you sit and stay awhile, drop us a line, let us know what you think, and by all means join us at our next freeroll (see "home" for our list of upcoming events).
Sincerely,
Your PokerForumSite owners/managers
